I am originally from Liverpool where I attended Merchant Taylors' School for Boys. I started out playing the piano from age 5 learning mostly classical pieces and I steadily progressed through the ABRSM grades. I took up the guitar at age 8 and it has been my primary instrument ever since. I studied Music at both GCSE and A-Level achieving the highest grade at each stage.
At school I enjoyed playing in bands, mostly for fun with friends. We performed at local events and celebrations but my main break came when I was asked to join a well-established group called Metric. I played with them for many years and I am proud to say my first paid gig was at The Cavern Club, the home of The Beatles. With Metric I gained a wealth of live experience, we spent time touring the area and a lot of hours in the local studios recording tracks.
I attended Keele University and had a great three years playing in bands, teaching and studying. Once I had graduated I stayed in Staffordshire and started tutoring full-time for a further 3 years. I had approximately 30 students per week of all ages and ability levels. At the end of 2010 I moved to Maidenhead in Berkshire to take on a full-time job as my fiancée, Katie, was training to be a Solicitor at the time. Katie has now qualified and we have moved to Matlock where I have resumed teaching. I am also hoping to enrol in the Post Graduate Certificate of Education course this year to obtain my Qualified Teacher Status.
Since learning to play guitar I have played in a variety of groups and bands of various styles. I have worked in studios as a session musician and I am confident teaching and performing to the highest levels. I play to above a Grade 8 standard in Guitar, Piano, Bass and several other instruments. I can teach Music Theory to Grade 8 and I use the Rockschool Grade Books for exams which students can sit if desired. Full support will be given if any help is needed with school studies or coursework.
